(2021/12/07-11:50)

Japan Household Spending Down 0.6 Pct in Oct.

Household spending in Japan in October fell 0.6 pct from a year earlier in price-adjusted real terms, with "revenge spending" apparently lacking momentum, internal affairs ministry data showed Tuesday.
Consumption spending by households comprising two or more members averaged 281,996, the ministry said.
Although the average spending fell for the third straight month, the pace of drop slowed from 1.9 pct in September, after the Japanese government lifted its latest coronavirus state of emergency at the end of September.
But consumers' revenge spending to satisfy their suppressed appetite for buying following the emergency lifting turned out to be weaker than expected at the start.
Spending on eating out fell 4.0 pct, due to the shortening of restaurants' operating hours and other measures against the novel coronavirus.
