ローマ教皇「核保有、平和への答えにならず」　核廃絶メッセージ―長崎と広島訪問

　来日中のフランシスコ・ローマ教皇は２４日、被爆地の長崎市を訪問した。同日夕には広島市も訪れる。教皇の被爆地訪問は、故ヨハネ・パウロ２世以来３８年ぶり。被爆者らを前に、「核兵器や大量破壊兵器を所有することは、平和と安定の望みへの最良の答えではない」と核兵器廃絶を求めるスピーチを行った。
　フランシスコ教皇は「広島と長崎から人類は学んでいない」と発言するなど、２０１３年の就任以来一貫して核兵器廃絶の必要性を訴えてきた。

　教皇は２４日午前、雨が降る中、長崎市の爆心地公園を訪れ、原爆の犠牲者に対して献花し、黙とう。その後、被爆者ら約１０００人を前に、核兵器廃絶に向けた演説を行い、「ここは、核兵器が人道的にも環境にも悲劇的結末をもたらすことの証人である町だ」と指摘した。
　また、武器の製造や維持に多額の費用が使われていることは「途方もないテロ行為」だと批判。核兵器規制の国際的枠組みが崩壊の危機にあると警鐘を鳴らし、核兵器禁止条約を含め核軍縮と不拡散への取り組みを各国に呼び掛けていく決意を表明した。
　さらに、政治指導者に向けて「核兵器は国家や世界の安全保障への脅威から私たちを守ってくれるものではない」と訴えた。（2019/11/24-14:44）

Pope Francis called for the elimination of nuclear weapons during a visit Sunday to Nagasaki, one of the two Japanese cities devastated by the August 1945 U.S. atomic bombings.
   The possession of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction is "not the answer" to a desire for security, peace and stability, the pope said in a speech at the hypocenter before a crowd of about 1,000 people including hibakusha, or atomic bomb survivors.
   Before the speech, Pope Francis laid a wreath of flowers and prayed silently for the victims of the atomic bombing that took place in Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945.
   He arrived in Japan on Saturday, becoming the first pope to visit the country since the 1981 trip by Pope John Paul II.
