山口公明代表、異例の「内政干渉」　危機感裏返し、自民は不快感

　公明党の山口那津男代表が、自民党総裁選を行ってから衆院選に臨むことが「望ましい」と発言し、自民党内から不快感を示す声が相次いだ。新型コロナウイルス対応への国民の不満を踏まえ、衆院選はワクチン接種を進めて感染状況が落ち着くのを待つべきだという趣旨だが、連立相手の党首選に口を挟むのは異例だ。
　山口氏は５日夜のＢＳ日テレ番組で「接種が進み活動できるようになれば望ましい選挙の環境になる」と指摘。司会者から「総裁選後に総選挙の方が国民の気持ちに合うか」と問われ、「その方が望ましいかもしれない」と語った。「（菅義偉首相は）国民の望むタイミングをよく検討されるべきだ」とも述べた。
　背景には、秋までにある衆院選への強い危機感があるようだ。公明は２０１９年参院選で比例代表の得票が約６５４万票で、１６年参院選から約１０４万票減らした。衆院選の先行指標とされた東京都議選では８回連続の全員当選を果たしたが、一部選挙区では次点と僅差の薄氷の勝利だった。
　山口氏の発言に対し、自民党の野田聖子幹事長代行は６日の記者会見で「総裁選の在り方は自民党が決するものだ」と不快感を表明。別の幹部も「他人の政党のことなのに。本当に余計な話だ」といら立ちを隠さなかった。
　９月末に自民党総裁任期満了を迎える首相は、同月中に衆院を解散し、総選挙に勝利して総裁選を無風で乗り切るシナリオを基本に据える。党内には都議選など重要選挙の「連敗」を受け「菅氏では戦えない」との声もくすぶるが、「菅降ろし」の具体的な動きは皆無。山口氏の発言は「公明からの菅降ろし」（閣僚経験者）に映ったようだ。
　当の山口氏は６日の会見で、発言は「一般論」で「解散は首相の専権で決断することだし、総裁選も自民党が決めることだ」と釈明した。自民党関係者は「公明の危機感は強い。今後も無理を言ってくるだろう」と漏らした。（2021/07/07-07:05）

Members of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party harshly reacted Tuesday to comments made by the head of junior coalition partner Komeito on the timing of the upcoming LDP leadership race.
   When asked in a television program Monday whether the country's general election, to be held by autumn, should be preceded by the LDP presidential election, Komeito chief Natsuo Yamaguchi said, "It may preferably be so."
   He also said Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who doubles as LDP president, "should carefully consider a timing that meets the wishes of the public."
   Suga currently serves the remaining term through September of Shinzo Abe, who abruptly stepped down as LDP chief, thus prime minister, last year.
   Yamaguchi made those unusual remarks after pointing out that progress in coronavirus vaccinations would create a favorable environment for elections, apparently fearing that the general election, or the contest for the House of Representatives, the all-important lower parliamentary chamber, will be a tough fight for his party.
