日米防衛相、北朝鮮ミサイル「重大な脅威」　自衛隊中東派遣も協議

　【バンコク時事】河野太郎防衛相は１８日、訪問先のバンコクで、エスパー米国防長官と約１時間会談した。両氏は北朝鮮の相次ぐ弾道ミサイル発射について「地域の安全保障にとって重大な脅威」との認識で一致。２３日に失効期限を迎える日韓軍事情報包括保護協定（ＧＳＯＭＩＡ）に関し、維持の必要性を改めて確認した。
　出席者によると、会談は韓国への対応が中心だったという。河野氏はこの後、記者団に「北朝鮮情勢を見ると、日米韓の連携の強化が必要だ」と訴えた。
　河野氏は会談で、自衛隊の中東派遣に関する検討状況を説明。エスパー氏は日本の取り組みが「地域の平和と安定に資する」と謝意を述べた。日本は米軍主導の有志連合による「センチネル（番人）作戦」には不参加を表明しているが、防衛相同行筋は「必要な情報共有はしていく」と語った。（2019/11/18-18:03）

Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono and U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper agreed Monday that a series of ballistic missile launches by North Korea is a grave threat to regional security.
   Kono and Esper also affirmed the importance of maintaining the General Security of Military Information Agreement, or GSOMIA, between Japan South Korea to ensure bilateral cooperation as well as trilateral cooperation among Tokyo, Washington and Seoul.
   Japan-South Korea GSOMIA, a key military information-sharing pact, is set to expire at midnight Friday (3 p.m. GMT) unless Seoul withdraws its decision to scrap it.
   Also in his meeting with Esper, Kono explained Japan's current preparations to send Self-Defense Troops to the Middle East for the safety of Japanese commercial vessels traveling in the region.
   Esper expressed gratitude for the envisaged plan, saying it is expected to contribute to regional peace and stability.
