住みやすい都市、大阪４位＝東京７位、英誌ランキング

　【ロンドン時事】英誌エコノミストの調査部門が４日発表した２０１９年版の世界で最も住みやすい都市のランキングで、大阪が４位となった。東京も７位に入った。首位はウィーン（オーストリア）だった。
　日本勢は質の高い教育や公共医療システム、治安の良さ、道路や鉄道などのインフラでは高い評価を得たが、文化活動や環境保護の取り組みではやや劣った。
　調査は世界の主要１４０都市を対象に実施。他の上位は２位がメルボルン、３位はシドニーとオーストラリア勢が占めた。最下位はダマスカス（シリア）だった。（2019/09/05-11:01）

Osaka and Tokyo, both in Japan, appeared in the top 10 of the world's most livable cities, according to a list released by the Economist Intelligence Unit Wednesday.
   Osaka was ranked fourth in the Global Liveability Index that covered 140 cities, while Tokyo came tied for seventh. Vienna, Austria, topped the list, followed by Melbourne and Sydney, both in Australia.
   "Our index remains dominated by medium-sized cities in wealthy countries," the Economist Intelligence Unit said.
   "These cities have well-funded public health care systems, compulsory and high-quality education, and functional road and rail infrastructure," it said.
   "The presence of Tokyo in the top 10 demonstrates that it is possible to scale up these characteristics, but maintaining these levels of performance in cities with two, three or four times as many people is challenging, especially when such cities also tend to be greater magnets for crime and terrorism," it said.
