代表選手がやって来る！＝「おもてなし」の準備大詰め－キャンプ各地・ラグビーＷ杯

　ラグビー・ワールドカップ（Ｗ杯）の開幕が２０日に迫る中、各国代表の来日が今月上旬から本格化する。キャンプ地となる各地では「おもてなし」の準備が大詰め。選手との交流を楽しみにする子どもたちも多い。
　１次リーグ第三戦で日本代表と激突するサモア代表の合宿地、福島県いわき市。１０～１５日の滞在中、市とチームは選手との記念撮影や握手会、小中学生らへのラグビー教室を企画している。
　同市は、小中学校の給食でサモア特産品のカカオを使ったデザートを提供するなど盛り上げに余念がない。市立三和小学校５年の阿部楓也さん（１０）は「合宿が楽しみ。テニスをやっているが、ラグビーもやってみたい」と目を輝かせる。

　強豪ウェールズ代表がキャンプを張る北九州市では、１６日の公開練習の際、同代表のサポーターがよく歌う賛美歌を市民が合唱する。市国際スポーツ大会推進室は、公開練習が行われる約１万５０００人収容のスタジアムを満員にしようと、市民に観覧を呼び掛けている。北橋健治市長は「一丸となり、Ｗ杯王者になれるように応援したい」と意気込む。
　「頑張れ！トンガ」。代表チームの現地入りを前に、高知市中心部の商店街には選手の写真や国旗をあしらった垂れ幕がはためく。９日の歓迎パーティーでは、土佐名物のカツオのたたきや日本酒を提供。ココナツミルクを使ったトンガの家庭料理なども用意し、県民との交流を盛り上げる。誘致を担当した高知県の林直人スポーツ課主査（３７）は「日本とトンガの両チームを大いに応援してほしい」と語る。
　優勝候補と呼び声の高い南アフリカ代表が来る鹿児島市。１１日の交流イベントでは、市立中郡小学校の６年生が踊りを披露し、英語で選手に質問できる機会も設ける。上田橋誠校長（５９）は「子どもたちに本物中の本物を見せられる機会は、めったにない。生涯心に残る経験を積んでほしい」と期待を寄せた。（2019/09/05-07:21）

With the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan kicking off on Sept. 20, municipalities chosen as training camp locations for teams participating in the quadrennial tournament are ramping up preparations to welcome them.
   The city of Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan, will be welcoming the Samoan national team for pre-tournament training from Tuesday to Sept. 15. The Samoan side, which will face Japan in the third match of Pool A in the group stage, will partner with the city to hold photograph-taking and hand-shaking events, and offer rugby classes for elementary school and junior high school students.
   Iwaki is pulling out all the stops to create a festive atmosphere for hosting the team, also known as Manu Samoa, such as by offering desserts made with cacao beans, a Samoan specialty, at lunches for elementary and junior high schools.
   "I'm looking forward to the training camp," 10-year-old Fuya Abe, a fifth-grader at the city's Miwa elementary school, said. "I play tennis, but I would like to also try rugby."
   The city of Kitakyushu in the southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka plans to welcome rugby powerhouse Wales for its public practice session at a local stadium on Sept. 16 with a citizen group singing Calon Lan, a Welsh hymn often sung by the team's fans before matches. The city government's International Sports Competition Promotion Office is calling on residents to come watch the session in order to fill the stadium, with a seating capacity of some 15,000.
