森会長が辞任表明　後任の候補者検討委設置―川淵氏に政府難色・東京五輪組織委

　東京五輪・パラリンピック組織委員会の森喜朗会長（８３）が１２日、女性蔑視発言の責任を取って辞任する意向を表明した。同日、東京都内で開かれた理事と評議員、監事を集めた臨時の「合同懇談会」で「私の不適切な発言が原因で大変混乱させてしまった。五輪開催の準備に、私がいることが妨げになってはいけない」と述べた。
　合同懇談会では、新会長選出に向けた候補者検討委員会を設置することを決めた。委員長には御手洗冨士夫名誉会長が就く。武藤敏郎事務総長は記者会見で「後任会長を早急に決める必要がある。国民にとって透明性のあるプロセスでなければならない」と語った。菅義偉首相は首相官邸で「国民や世界に歓迎され、ルールと透明性に基づいて決定されるべきだ」と述べた。
　後任候補に橋本聖子五輪担当相が浮上している。他にオリンピアンの小谷実可子氏、山口香氏、高橋尚子氏、室伏広治スポーツ庁長官らの名前も取り沙汰されている。
　１１日、森氏に後任を依頼された組織委評議員で日本サッカー協会相談役の川淵三郎氏（８４）は就任に前向きな姿勢を示していたが、首相官邸が難色を示した。川淵氏は１２日に一転して辞退した。（2021/02/12-22:21）

Tokyo Games Committee Pres. Mori Offers to Resign

Yoshiro Mori, president of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee, on Friday expressed his intention to resign over his recent sexist remarks.
   "My inappropriate remarks have caused great confusion," Mori, 83, told an extraordinary meeting of the committee's Executive Board members, councillors and auditors.
   He said he does not want to be an obstacle to the preparations for the Olympics, slated for summer.
   At a Japanese Olympic Committee meeting Feb. 3, Mori said, "Meetings of boards of directors with many women take so much time."
   He apologized and withdrew the remarks the following day. Criticism kept growing in and outside the country, however, among athletes, sponsor companies and others.
