募る危機感、「対策徹底を」＝史跡管理者らに衝撃－京都、平泉、日光・首里城炎上で

　沖縄のシンボル首里城の炎上は、貴重な文化財を抱える各地の史跡管理者らに衝撃を与えた。「火災対策の徹底を」「原因を究明して」。世界遺産に登録される寺社の担当者らも危機感を募らせ、防火設備の再点検を急いだ。
　京都市の二条城で開かれた緊急会議では、寺社職員らから「夜間にどう（消火などの）機械を操作、運用するかが問題」（東寺）、「多くの人の目で異常がないか見ることが大事」（上賀茂神社）などの声が上がった。消防担当者は「工事中の建物からの火事が多い。まず火を出さないことだ」と話し、防火設備の緊急点検・指導をすると明らかにした。
　市が管理する二条城は１７００年代に天守閣と本丸御殿が焼失している。北村信幸事務所長は「イベントで電気や火を使う。気をつけないといけない」と表情を引き締めた。
　岩手県教育委員会の担当者は、同県平泉町の中尊寺の防火管理に関し「改めてしっかりすることが必要だ」と語った。４月のパリのノートルダム大聖堂火災を受けた文化庁の調査で、同寺は防火設備の老朽化が判明した。改修について協議していたところだった。
　中尊寺では各建物に放水銃と消火栓を配備。経典を収める重要文化財の経蔵周囲には、水幕で延焼を防ぐドレンチャーも設置し対策に力を入れる。同寺職員は首里城の火災について「まだ原因が分からない。真相究明してもらい、こちらとしても注意したい」と話した。
　栃木県日光市の社寺関係者からは「地元の精神的な支えだっただろう。気の毒で残念だ」と同情の声が上がった。
　輪王寺では、火気取り扱いを気を付けるよう全職員に緊急の注意喚起をした。同寺の今井昌英総務部長は「紅葉シーズンで観光客も多い季節。念には念を入れる」と強調。１１月１日からは屋台で食べ物を提供するなど火気を使ったイベントも控え、「対岸の火事と思わず防災意識を高め、同じことがないよう努めたい」と気を引き締めた。（2019/11/01-07:15）

Thursday's fire that severely damaged Shurijo, a castle that is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site in the southernmost Japan prefecture of Okinawa, triggered a sense of alarm among people and organizations managing historic sites in the country.
   At an emergency meeting held at the Nijojo castle in the western city of Kyoto, participants, including officials of local shrines and temples, exchanged views on the latest fire, which sent shock waves throughout the country, and measures to protect their facilities from fires.
   An official of the Toji temple said that "how to operate fire protection equipment at night is an important issue." An official of the Kamigamo Jinja shrine said many people should cooperate to check for abnormalities.
   Noting that fires often happen at buildings under construction, a local fire department official said, "In the first place, it is important to try to prevent fires from starting." The official said that fire authorities are preparing to conduct emergency checks of fire protection equipment at temples and shrines, and provide advice on necessary measures.
   The "tenshukaku" castle keep and the "honmaru goten" palace of Nijojo, which is managed by the city government of Kyoto, were burned down by a fire in the 18th century. "We need to be careful because electricity and fire are used in various events at the castle," said Nobuyuki Kitamura, an official in charge of the management of the castle, which is part of a World Heritage site in the city and surrounding areas.
