「少しでも役に立てれば」＝ボランティア受け入れ開始－台風被災の長野市

　台風１９号の大雨で千曲川の堤防が決壊し、浸水などの被害を受けた長野市では１６日、各地から訪れるボランティアの受け付けが始まった。「少しでも役に立てれば」。市南部災害ボランティアセンターには平日にもかかわらず、多くの人が集まった。
　同日に受け入れたのは同市南部の篠ノ井地区と松代地区。市河川課によると、両地区の推定浸水面積は約４６０ヘクタールに上るとみられる。
　市社会福祉協議会によると、ボランティアは被災者のニーズに応じて、家財の搬出や泥のかき出し、家屋の清掃などに当たった。思い出の詰まった品を処分することもあるため、被災者の話を聞くなど心のケアを含めた活動を依頼している。

　同センターで１６日朝に受け付けを済ませた長野市内の女性は「テレビの映像を見て、少しでも役に立てればと思って来ました」と話した。
　篠ノ井地区の男性（７０）宅では、市内から来た看護師北沢忍さん（３１）が汚れたふすまを外に運び出す作業に汗を流した。この日は仕事が休みだという北沢さんは「地元の災害で休みの日に何もしないのは落ち着かない。慣れ親しんだ地域なので、何かできれば」と話した。
　男性宅は１階部分が浸水。北沢さんら５人のボランティアは床の板を外して断熱材を取り出し、床下の泥をかき出す作業などを続けた。「どこから手を付けたらよいのか分からず、若い人がいると心強い」と感謝した。
　広範囲で浸水の被害を受けた穂保地区など長野市北部では１７日以降に活動が始められる予定。同市内では１６日午前６時現在で約７００人が避難所に身を寄せている。（2019/10/16-12:47）

Many people are flocking to a volunteer center in the city of Nagano hit by floods due to Typhoon Hagibis, hoping to "be of any help" to affected residents.
   After torrential rains brought by the powerful typhoon burst the levee of the Chikuma River in the central Japan city last weekend, the city government is receiving volunteer workers.
   The Shinonoi and Matsushiro districts in southern Nagano started accepting volunteers Wednesday. The total inundated areas in the districts are estimated at some 460 hectares, a city official said.
   Volunteer workers carried out household goods from houses and engaged in mud removal and cleaning work, in line with the needs of disaster victims, according to the city's social welfare council.
   As some items for disposal could be filled with memories, volunteers are asked to take time to hear the stories of victims and provide assistance related to emotional care.
