新党代表選、枝野氏「当確」　国民に対抗馬擁立の動き

　立憲民主、国民民主両党などによる合流新党は、代表選を９月７日の週に行う方向だ。立憲の枝野幸男代表が当選を確実視される一方、無投票を回避するため、国民の泉健太政調会長を擁立する動きもある。
　合流新党には、立憲（８９人）、国民（６２人）、無所属２グループ（２０人）から、計１５０人程度が参加する見通し。１日に合同の選挙管理委員会を開き、代表選の日程を決める予定で、立候補には２０人以上の推薦が必要となる。
　枝野氏は３日にも出馬表明する方針だ。これに先立ち、立憲の赤松広隆衆院副議長が率いるリベラル系の党内最大グループは２８日、２６人分の署名を添えて支援を伝達。枝野氏は「心強い」と応じた。
　国民の小沢一郎衆院議員らと会談を重ねるなど、立憲以外への働き掛けも本格化。立憲幹部によると、無所属グループの大半から支持を取り付けたという。枝野氏に近い関係者は「（代表選を）やりたいわけではない」としつつも、「やるなら圧勝が必要だ」と強調した。
　これに対し、国民側は泉氏を推す。辞任表明した安倍晋三首相の後継首相が、早期の衆院解散・総選挙に踏み切る可能性を見据え、「代表選で新党の存在感を発揮した方がいい」（中堅）との判断からだ。代表選で一定の支持を得られれば、合流新党で影響力を確保できるとの思惑も透ける。
　無所属グループにも代表選の実施を求める声が根強い。岡田克也元外相は「新党の門出だからやった方がいい」と記者団に語った。（2020/08/31-07:06）

Yukio Edano, head of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, looks set to be picked as the leader of the new opposition party to be created through the merger of the CDPJ and the Democratic Party for the People.
   A leadership election is likely to be held during the week starting on Sept. 7.
   There are moves to have DPFP policy chief Kenta Izumi run for the party presidency to prevent Edano from taking the top post without a contest, according to sources familiar with the matter.
   The new opposition party is expected to be joined by about 150 lawmakers, including 89 CDPJ members, 62 DPFP members and 20 nonaffiliated lawmakers.
   A meeting of a joint election board is set to be held on Tuesday to decide the schedule of the presidency election. Those who want to file their candidacies need to collect at least 20 supporters from fellow lawmakers.
