菅原前経産相を起訴猶予　選挙区で香典―東京地検

　自民党衆院議員の菅原一秀前経済産業相（５８）＝東京９区＝の秘書が選挙区内で香典を配ったなどとされる公選法違反疑惑で、東京地検特捜部は２５日、菅原氏を起訴猶予とした。事実を認め、謝罪したことなどを考慮した。
　特捜部によると、菅原氏は２０１７年７月～１９年１０月、秘書を通じ、選挙区内の延べ２７人に対し、親族の死去に伴う枕花や香典の名目で計約３０万円を寄付した。
　公選法は、政治家本人が出席した葬式や通夜で香典を出す場合などを除き、選挙区内の有権者への寄付を原則禁止している。特捜部などによると、菅原氏が香典を出した葬儀はほかにも多数あり、大半は菅原氏本人が出席していたという。
　菅原氏は「心から反省している。ご迷惑をお掛けしたことを深くおわび申し上げる」などとするコメントを出した。（2020/06/25-15:55）

Public prosecutors decided Thursday to stop short of indicting former industry minister Isshu Sugawara over a money scandal that forced him to resign from office last October.
   The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office's special investigation squad made the decision after questioning Sugawara, 58, and others on the matter, according to informed sources.
   At the center of the scandal was "koden" condolence money distributed by a secretary to the House of Representatives lawmaker of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
   Japan's public offices election law bans in principle donations by politicians to voters in their constituencies, except for some cases including koden payments at funerals and wakes attended by politicians themselves.
   At a press conference on June 16, Sugawara admitted that he had had his secretary hand koden money at funerals held during his overseas visits. "I feel regret for that," the former minister said.
