日鉄、千葉の高炉一時休止発表　５月中旬以降、需要減―新型コロナ

　日本製鉄は２１日、東日本製鉄所君津地区（千葉県君津市）の第２高炉を５月中旬以降に一時休止すると正式に発表した。新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響で自動車、建築向けの鋼材需要が急減したため。
　新型コロナの影響で、高炉の一時休止を決めるのは３基目。第２高炉は君津地区の全２基のうち、容積が小さい方の高炉だが、同社の国内生産能力の７％前後を占める。
　これまでと同様に、将来の再稼働を前提とする「バンキング」と呼ばれる休止方法を採用する。（2020/04/21-11:17）

Nippon Steel to Idle Another Blast Furnace amid Virus Crisis

Nippon Steel Corp. said Tuesday that it will idle a blast furnace in Kimitsu in Chiba Prefecture, eastern Japan, in mid-May or later as demand for steel products used in automobiles and buildings has plunged due to the impact from the coronavirus pandemic.
The blast furnace has a production capacity that accounts for about 7 pct of the company's total in Japan. This is the third blast furnace for Nippon Steel to idle due to the coronavirus crisis.
