宇宙飛行士候補に男女２人　４６歳世銀職員と２８歳医師―日本人初、月着陸の可能性・ＪＡＸＡ

　宇宙航空研究開発機構（ＪＡＸＡ）は２８日、新たな日本人宇宙飛行士候補に、世界銀行上級防災専門官の諏訪理さん（４６）と、日本赤十字社医療センターの医師、米田あゆさん（２８）が決まったと発表した。新たな飛行士候補の決定は２００９年の油井亀美也さん（５３）ら以来、１４年ぶり。諏訪さんらは、国際月探査「アルテミス計画」で日本人初の月面着陸を果たす可能性もある。
　東京都内で同日開かれた記者会見で、米田さんは「喜びと同時にびっくりした。選んでいただいたことへの責任感や使命を感じ、身が引き締まる思いだ」と述べた。諏訪さんは、仕事で滞在中の米国からリモートで参加。「大きなキャリアシフトになる。『しっかりと仕事をしていかないと』という思いを強く持っている」と話した。
　諏訪さんは東京生まれ。０７年に米プリンストン大大学院修了後、世界気象機関（ＷＭＯ）を経て、１４年に世界銀行に入行した。４６歳での選抜は過去最年長。
　米田さんは東京生まれで、１９年東京大医学部を卒業後、同付属病院を経て、２１年４月から日本赤十字社医療センターで外科医として勤務。過去最年少での選抜で、女性飛行士は向井千秋さん（７０）、山崎直子さん（５２）に続き３人目となる。（2023/02/28-19:02）

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, said Tuesday it has picked Makoto Suwa, a 46-year-old male World Bank worker, and Ayu Yoneda, a 28-year-old female doctor at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center, as astronaut candidates.
   It was the first time for JAXA to choose astronaut candidates since it picked Kimiya Yui, 53, and others as astronaut candidates in 2009.
   Suwa and Yoneda might become the first Japanese to land on the moon, under the NASA-led Artemis manned lunar exploration program. Japan has announced its participation in the program.
   "I was happy and surprised at the same time," Yoneda told a press conference in Tokyo. "I then felt a sense of responsibility about being selected as well as a sense of mission."
   Joining the press conference online from the United States, Suwa said, "As I'll be making a major career shift, I strongly feel that I have to do my job to my best."
