新スパコン「富岳」出荷　「京」後継、性能１００倍―石川

　理化学研究所と富士通は２日、石川県かほく市の工場で製造しているスーパーコンピューター「富岳（ふがく）」の出荷を開始した。６月までに約４００台の計算機が、理研の計算科学研究センター（神戸市）に納入される。
　富岳は、８月に約７年間の本格運用を終えたスパコン「京（けい）」の後継機として、２０１４年度から開発。京の１００倍以上の計算能力があり、ナノテクノロジーや防災、創薬など最先端研究に活用される。
　この日出荷された計算機は６台で、富士通の時田隆仁社長は「京にも勝るとも劣らない大きな貢献を成し遂げると期待している」と話した。（2019/12/02-18:27）

Fujitsu Ltd. and Japanese government-affiliated research institute Riken have started the shipment of the "Fugaku" new Japanese supercomputer.
   A total of some 400 units of the supercomputer system comprising more than 150,000 high-performance central processing units will be delivered by June to the Riken Center for Computational Science in the western Japan city of Kobe from a factory in the city of Kahoku, Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan, where the computer is being manufactured.
   The first six units were shipped to the center on Monday.
   Work to develop Fugaku as the successor to the country's K supercomputer began in fiscal 2014. Having more than 100 times the computing power of K, which ended its seven-year operations in August this year, Fugaku will be used for advanced research in such fields as nanotechnology, disaster management and drug development.
   "We expect Fugaku to make great contributions on par with those from K," Fujitsu President Takahito Tokita said.
