量子技術で連携加速　東芝など、産業創出へ協議会

　幅広い産業に応用可能な「量子技術」の研究開発で、産学官の連携が加速してきた。東芝やトヨタ自動車、ＮＴＴなど１１社は３１日、量子技術を用いた新産業の創出を目指す協議会を今夏立ち上げる計画を公表。国家安全保障を左右するとも言われる次世代技術の覇権を狙う。
　「オールジャパン体制で量子技術イノベーション立国の実現を目指す」―。３１日に開かれた「量子技術による新産業創出協議会」の設立発起人会で、発起人会長に就任した綱川智・東芝社長はこう強調した。
　協議会は、飛躍的に計算能力が高い「量子コンピューター」や盗聴が理論上不可能とされる「量子暗号」などの基盤技術、人材、制度の課題を洗い出し、議論を進める。量子技術の研究開発で米国や中国などがしのぎを削る中、産業化の可能性を追求し、日本勢としても存在感を発揮したい考えだ。
　一方、フリーマーケットアプリ大手のメルカリは３１日、量子インターネットを研究開発する組織を慶大や東大などと共同で設立したと発表した。量子データをやりとりする量子インターネットは、情報を盗み見されずに安全に通信できるのが特徴だ。
　新組織には他企業の参加も促し、研究開発に弾みをつけたい考えだ。メルカリの永山翔太シニアリサーチャーは「企業に知見を蓄えてもらいたい」と指摘。１５年後に試験的に実用化することを目指すという。（2021/05/31-20:52）

Eleven Japanese companies, including Toshiba Corp. , have said they plan to jointly launch a council this summer in a bid to create a new industry using quantum technology.
   The council will identify and discuss issues linked to quantum computers, quantum cryptography and other base technologies, as well as those on related human resources and rules, with an aim to explore the possibility of industrializing quantum technology, which is widely expected to play a key role in national security.
   Quantum computers have much higher computing capabilities than conventional computers, while quantum cryptography theoretically makes wiretapping impossible.
   With the council, the 11 companies, which also include Toyota Motor Corp. and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. , hope to boost their presence at a time when U.S. and Chinese players are vying with each other in the research and development of quantum technology.
   "This is an all-Japan system aimed at making the country a world innovation leader in quantum technology," Toshiba President Satoshi Tsunakawa said at the council's foundation meeting on Monday. Tsunakawa became chairman of a committee of the council's promotors.
