五輪中止・延期、野党に強まる声　無観客の財政負担増にも懸念

　新型コロナウイルス感染の収束が見えない中、夏の東京五輪・パラリンピックをめぐり、立憲民主党など野党内で中止や延期に言及する幹部が相次いでいる。政府は開催する姿勢を崩していないが、５月１１日が期限の緊急事態宣言が延長されるなど状況に改善が見られなければ、一段と声が強まることも予想される。
　立憲の泉健太政調会長は２８日の党会合で「国民の生活・命を守るため、断念も含めて真摯（しんし）に検討すべきだ」と強調した。同党はこれまで五輪開催の是非について明確な発言を控えていたが、コロナ感染の「第４波」突入を受け、踏みこんだ。
　共産党の志位和夫委員長も２２日の記者会見で、「緊急事態宣言を発令しながらあくまで開き続ける姿勢に立つと、正しい政策判断もできなくなる。中止の決断を直ちに行うことを重ねて、重ねて求めたい」と訴えた。
　野党からこうした声が上がるのは、７月２３日に迫った五輪開幕を前に、なお感染封じ込めに至らない政府へのいら立ちがある。
　東京五輪・パラリンピック組織委員会の橋本聖子会長も政府と足並みをそろえつつ、２８日に無観客開催の可能性に言及。ただ、当初９００億円を見込んでいたチケット収入がなくなれば、さらなる国民負担につながりかねない。国民民主党の玉木雄一郎代表は開催延期も検討すべきだと語る。
　緊急事態宣言の期限直前の５月１０日に、菅義偉首相出席の下、衆参両院で予算委員会の集中審議が実施される。野党側は立憲の枝野幸男代表らが質問に立つ予定で、五輪についても厳しく追及する構えだ。
　一方、与野党には、「都民ファーストの会」を率いる東京都の小池百合子知事が今夏の開催断念を、７月４日投開票の都議選公約として打ち出すとの臆測も流れており、動きを注視している。（2021/05/01-11:24）

Japanese opposition lawmakers are stepping up their calls for the country to cancel or postpone this summer's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.
   "We need to be serious about considering options including canceling the events to protect the lives of the people," Kenta Izumi, policy chief of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, said at a party meeting on Wednesday.
   The fresh wave of infections alarmed the CDP, which had not taken a clear stance on whether the Tokyo Games should take place this summer as planned.
   At a press conference on April 22, Kazuo Shii, chairman of the Japanese Communist Party, reiterated the party's demand that the games be canceled.
   The government "will no longer be able to make a right policy decision if it remains committed to holding the games while issuing a state of emergency" over the pandemic, Shii said. "A decision to cancel the events needs to be made immediately."
