ローマ字「姓－名」、来年１月から＝サイトや書簡で表記－政府

　政府は２５日、国が作成する公文書で日本人名のローマ字表記を原則として「姓－名」の順にすることについて、具体的な表記対象として行政機関の外国語ウェブサイト、外国語の書簡や相手国に日本の立場を説明する資料などで用いることを申し合わせた。萩生田光一文部科学相が同日の閣議後の記者会見で発表した。来年１月１日から実施する。
　このほかの対象は、２国間・多数国間の共同声明や白書などの外国語で発信する文書、行政機関が主催する会議での名簿やネームプレート、日本の大使の信任状・解任状の英仏語訳など。ただ、国際機関が指定する様式など特段の慣行がある場合は「名－姓」順でもよいとした。対応可能なものは同日前から実施できる。（2019/10/25-11:46）

Beginning Jan. 1, the Japanese government will put family names before given names when Japanese names appear in official documents in the Latin alphabet, culture minister Koichi Hagiuda said at a press conference Friday.
   The surname-first style is the normal way of writing names in Japanese, while Japanese people usually put their given names first when writing in the Latin alphabet.
   The government will use the surname-first style in foreign-language papers and websites, the nameplates of Japanese participants in conferences, and even joint statements with foreign countries.
   Family names will be put in capital letters, if necessary, to make it clear that they are not given names.
   The government will use the given name-first style where it is the customary practice, such as formats designated by international organizations.
