(2019/10/25-12:18)

Ex-Medical Lecturer Investigated over Regenerative Treatment

A former lecturer at a private medical college in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, is under police investigation for allegedly conducting regenerative treatment without filing necessary paperwork to state authorities, it was learned Friday.
   Investigators from the Osaka prefectural police department searched Osaka Medical College and other locations in September in connection with the former lecturer, a male doctor in his 50s, investigative sources said.
   According to the sources, the man is accused of collecting and cultivating adipose stem cells from a woman outside the college and administering the cells back to her by intravenous infusion. He is also thought to have received and cultivated stem cells from three other people.
   The four people are acquaintances of the former lecturer, and were not general patients under his care. They are not claiming any health damages from his activities.
   The stem cells, which can transform into muscle tissue, is thought to have been used for anti-aging purposes. The infusions can also trigger blockages in blood vessels in the lung, prompting the police and the health ministry to look into the incident.
