安倍首相、パレスチナ議長らと会談＝「即位外交」始動、初日は２３人と面会

　安倍晋三首相は２１日、天皇陛下が即位を内外に宣言する「即位礼正殿の儀」に合わせて来日したパレスチナ自治政府のアッバス議長ら各国要人と相次いで会談した。慶事の機会を生かした「即位外交」の一環で、首相は２５日までに約５０カ国の元首らと個別会談に臨む。
　首相は午前９時すぎに東京・元赤坂の迎賓館に到着。モルディブのソーリフ大統領を皮切りに、ミャンマーのアウン・サン・スー・チー国家顧問、ヨルダンのフセイン皇太子ら計２３人と駆け足で面会した。

　アッバス議長との会談で、首相は中東和平問題に触れ「まずはイスラエルや米国との対話を再開することが重要だ」と伝達。アッバス氏は和平実現への日本の貢献に期待を表明した。（2019/10/21-19:55）

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe started Monday a series of meetings with foreign leaders visiting Japan to attend the "Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi" ceremony on Tuesday to proclaim Emperor Naruhito's enthronement.
   Abe will meet with a total of about 50 heads of state and other leaders from abroad by Friday. On Monday, Abe is slated to hold meetings with 23 of them, including Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and Jordan's Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, at the State Guest House in the Motoakasaka district in Tokyo's Minato Ward.
   At a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Abe touched on the Middle East peace process and underscored the importance of resuming talks with the United States and Israel. Abbas expressed his hope for Japan's contribution to the achievement of peace in the region.
   The Japanese government invited representatives from over 190 countries and international organizations to the Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi ceremony and related events. According to the Foreign Ministry, 183 countries, and the United Nations, the European Union and the Palestinian Authority have informed Tokyo by Monday that they would send representatives to the events.
   Some 400 foreign dignitaries, including Britain's Prince Charles, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, are expected to attend the enthronement proclamation ceremony.
