空母「加賀」、太平洋の海底で発見＝ミッドウェー海戦で沈没－米調査チーム

　太平洋戦争で沈没した軍艦などの探査活動に当たっている米調査チームは１７日、日米海軍が戦った１９４２年のミッドウェー海戦で沈没した旧日本海軍の空母「加賀」を、中部太平洋の水深５４００メートルの海底で発見したと発表した。
　発見したのは、米ＩＴ大手マイクロソフトの共同創業者ポール・アレン氏（昨年１０月死去）が設立した調査チーム。数週間にわたって広範な海域を捜索した末に見つけたという。過去には戦艦「武蔵」などを発見したと発表している。
　「加賀」は旧日本海軍の代表的な空母で、４１年１２月の真珠湾攻撃に参加した後、４２年６月のミッドウェー海戦で沈没した。この海戦で日本側は空母４隻を失う大敗を喫し、太平洋戦争の転換点になったともいわれる。（2019/10/19-15:12）

Researchers have found the wreck of the now-defunct Imperial Japanese Navy's aircraft carrier Kaga, which was sunk by U.S. forces in World War II, on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
   The vessel was found 5,400 meters below the surface of the central Pacific after weeks of searches, the U.S. research team funded by Microsoft Corp. late cofounder Paul Allen said Thursday.
   The shipwreck survey team previously said it has found other Imperial Japanese Navy vessels, including the battleship Musashi.
   The Kaga participated in the attack on the Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and sank in June 1942 during the Battle of Midway.
   Japan lost four aircraft carriers, including the Kaga, in the battle, which is considered a turning point in the Pacific War, part of World War II.
