遺族ら犠牲者を追悼　サイレンに合わせ黙とう―知床観光船事故３年・北海道

　死者・行方不明者２６人を出した知床観光船「ＫＡＺＵ　I（カズワン）」沈没事故から３年となった２３日、北海道斜里町で追悼式が行われた。遺族ら約１２０人が参列。事故が発生したとされる午後１時すぎ、サイレンに合わせて黙とうをささげ、犠牲者の冥福を祈った。
　山内浩彰町長は式辞で「真に魅力のある知床であるために何をすべきか。地域全体で深く見詰め直し、安心、安全を一つ一つ積み重ねていく」などと述べた。知床斜里町観光協会の野尻勝規会長は「安全を確保していくことが最大の使命」と強調し、「安心して自然と観光を楽しんでいただく一助になれるよう努めていく」と誓った。
　元妻＝当時（４２）＝と息子＝同（７）＝が巻き込まれた道内の男性（５２）は、カズワンが出港した漁港で黙とう。「厳しいのは分かっているが、２人の帰りを待ち続けていたい」と振り絞るように語った。
　追悼式会場には献花台が設置され、朝から多くの町民らが花を手向けに訪れた。
　当時、運航会社「知床遊覧船」（同町）の関連会社に勤務し、遺族対応に当たった杉浦登市さん（６３）も献花。「あっという間の３年」と振り返り、「日にちが過ぎるたびに忘れ去られないようにしたい」と語った。観光ガイドの寺山元さん（５８）は「自然はリスクを持っている。事業者は誠実にリスクと向き合うことが宿命だ」と話した。（2025/04/24-07:03）

A memorial service was held in the town of Shari in the northern Japan prefecture of Hokkaido on Wednesday to mark the third anniversary of the fatal sinking of the Kazu I tour boat.
   During the service, about 120 participants, including bereaved families, observed a moment of silence shortly after 1 p.m., when the incident is believed to have occurred.
   The tour boat, operated by Shari-based Shiretoko Yuransen, sank off the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula on April 23, 2022, leaving a total of 20 passengers and crew members dead and six others still unaccounted for.
   Shari Mayor Hiroaki Yamauchi said that the local community will reassess what needs to be done to make the Shiretoko area attractive and "build safety step by step."
   "Our biggest mission is to ensure (tourists') safety," said Katsunori Nojiri, head of the Shiretoko Shari-cho Tourist Association. "We'll work to ensure that people can enjoy nature and sightseeing without worrying."
