自転車ロードレース、安全確保へ速度抑制を検討

　ロードレースでは、このところ特に下り坂での事故が続いており、一部の選手や主催者からレース中の速度を落とすよう求める声が出ている。その一つの解決策がギア比の制限で、ＵＣＩもその選択肢を検討しているという。
　ラパルティアン会長は１８日に公開された、仏メディアとのインタビューの中で、「年末のどこかの大会でテストを予定している」と明かしつつ、疑念も示した。
　「一般的に言って、スピードを落とすのは時代にやや逆行する」「個人的には、ギア比の制限には多くの疑念がある。軽いギアで速くペダルを回す選手や、重いギアでもこげる選手といった持ち味が変わる可能性がある」
　「確かにレースは高速化している。特に大きな要因は用具の大幅な効率化だ。ギア比の制限がその解決策になるのか。そう考える人もいる。いずれにせよ、背景にあるのはスピードをどう抑えるかという問題だ」

The head of cycling's governing body said it is wrestling with the idea of reducing the maximum power riders can generate to make road racing safer.

One solution is limiting gear ratios and the International Cycling Union (UCI) is weighing that option, president David Lappartient told French media in an interview published on Friday.
