Abe, Modi Discuss Japan-India Logistics Pact

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, discussed the planned conclusion of a bilateral defense logistics pact, at a meeting held in a suburb of Bangkok on Monday.
The Japanese government hopes to sign the acquisition and cross-servicing agreement that will allow the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and the Indian military to share food, ammunition and other items, when Abe visits India possibly in December.
Abe and Modi met for the first time since they held talks in the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok in September.
At the latest meeting, which lasted 45 minutes, they agreed that Japan and India will actively offer economic cooperation to third countries, such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, in a joint initiative.
Abe and Modi also discussed maritime security issues, with China, which is beefing up its activities in the South China Sea, in mind.
